PREPARING THE FOUNDATION (ZOOM ONLINE COURSE)

PREP-1 is a language development course designed for 6th grade and up. The purpose of PREP-1 is:

  • To prepare students 6th grade+ for my Level 1 class, which is available for 7th grade and up.
  • To help older students who struggle with language arts to strengthen their language arts foundation before enrolling in Level 1.

For various reasons, many students struggle with language arts and need extra preparation before beginning Level 1. Some have language-based learning disorders, such as dyslexia, and some simply have not stored enough language experience, through listening to and reading correct language, to be able to read and write correctly.

Building on the concepts of Andrew Pudewa’s cornerstone lecture, “Nurturing Competent Communicators,” PREP-1 students will spend the year: 1) Listening daily to high quality literature read aloud by a parent; 2) Memorizing and reciting poetry from Andrew Pudewa’s Linguistic Development through Poetry Memorization; 3) Learning to make basic key word outlines from simple sources; and 4) Giving oral reports from their key word outlines.

Parents who are interested in PREP-1 must agree to listen to Pudewa’s “Nurturing Competent Communicators” audio recording BEFORE REGISTERING; the download is free. They must also agree to work with their student daily, reading aloud and memorizing poetry. Lists of read-alouds and a set of copyrighted poetry memorization materials from IEW will be provided. For PREP-1 there is an extra $50 materials fee for the IEW student poetry manual and MP3 recordings, due with and in addition to the Registration fee, for a total registration fee of $228 (or $193 Early Bird discount registration fee). See Pricing page for complete payment information. (6th-12th; meets every other week)

If you are interested in discussing PREP-1 for your student, send me an email through the Contact tab!

NOTE: Unlike my writing classes Levels 1, 2, and 3, PREP-1 students work at their own pace with the poetry and literature sections, so students may join the class at any time during Semester 1. The latest time to join will be the first class of Semester 2. Fees will be prorated.

If you do not have an IEW account already, you will need to create one. Then add the audio download to your cart, and follow the prompts to “purchase” it…it’s free so it won’t cost you anything.

Next, go to “Your Account” at the top of the page, then click on “Files” tab. You should see it listed there.

FYI: I bought 5 recordings recently and they did not appear in my “Files” tab. I had to live chat IEW and told them the files weren’t showing up and they had to fix it. Some kind of glitch on the website, I guess, but I have bought many of the recordings and that was the only time I have ever had a problem with them.

Please contact me through my Contact tab if you need help or have questions.
