My story charts are created to help readers understand the elements of literature and to learn to analyze a story. I use the method taught by the Center for Lit in my classes when discussing literature. The Jekyll and Hyde chart was created to be used in the Level 1 “book review” assignment. Level 1 students read a novel from my list and practice analyzing it by making a story chart. Then I give them a complete story chart to use when writing the assignment.
If a student wants to write about a classic novel that is not on my list, but which I have read, I make a new story chart for the book. The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde was chosen by a student last year. It is a delight to make a story chart for a student who is interested enough in a great book to want to write about it!
SPOILER ALERT! Don’t look at the chart until you have read the book! Then click on the book title below to go to my updated story chart!
